Traumatic brain injury (TBI) is a complex neurologic and neuropathologic process that may affect the patients behavior permanently. Michigan has the most comprehensive no-fault automobile insurance system in the nation. In Michigan, about 30% of traumatic brain injuries are caused by car crashes. Some types of therapies can help you cope with this. In some cases amnesia may be temporary, but in other cases it may be permanent. TBI Resulting From an Automobile Accident It’s caused by damage to memory-making parts of your brain. This condition is most often caused by repetitive head trauma. Symptoms usually appear around age 30 or 40. Symptoms include a decline in thinking skills, known as cognitive skills. The disease causes certain nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord to waste away. Not all blows or jolts to the head result in a TBI. A TBI is caused by a bump, blow or jolt to the head or a penetrating head injury that disrupts the normal function of the brain.
